About Slovenia

Slovenia is a beautiful country that provides an interesting mixture of sea and mountains with the majority of its land being covered by a vast expanse of forestry. Lying in the heart of Europe, it has Austria to the North of its borders, Hungary to the East, Croatia to the South and Italy to its West. Thus the Country lies at the heart of four major European geographical regions, the Mediterranean, the Alps, the Pannonian Plain and the Dinarides. Having only become independent in 1991, Slovenia is one of the youngest European countries and is blessed with a wealth of attractions.

With its mountains and Adriatic coastline which spans 46.6km, Slovenia has a varied climate, sub-Mediterranean on the coast, alpine in the mountains. The major part has a continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Its official language is Slovene, although in some areas that have a mixed nationality, Italian and Hungarian are also spoken. Slovene cuisine is a fusion of various cuisines as it is strongly influenced by its neighbouring countries.
